policy community

policy community
A small, stable and consensual grouping of government officials and pressure group representatives that forms around a particular policy area, the interaction being close and continual. Both sides place emphasis on the mutual benefits of largely confidential formal and informal cooperation in the establishment and implementation of policy. They are less evident today, having been replaced by policy networks which are indicative of a more open style of decision-making.
